Today, I got up at 5:00 a.m. So the day started early. I had to prepare my bread and myself, so we could get to Scherpenhuizen at 5:35 a.m. When we arrived in Eindhoven, we put out the alarm system, because we were the first ones to arrive.
Ten minutes after we arrived, my mentor for today, Sjaak Verploegen, arrived. After we met, he showed me how his day is put together. He starts by checking his e-mail and checking the stock inside the warehouse, and then he is going around the warehouse, to check the tomatoes, because that is his one of his tasks. When he finished that, he went in the office and started to predict the prices of the tomatoes that day. He does that using the history of prices around this time a year in previous years and the prices of the last day.
When this was finished, we went in to the meeting room to talk about the prices, together with the other salesmen.
After this, the selling and buying really started. He got on to the auction ZON to buy tomatoes and he started calling, and mailing for customers to find. When all of this was done (well actually, it is never 'done') he recalculated the prices, and I moved to Filip, Who gave me an explanation about the quality department.
At this department, they control the safety of the foods they sell. They control them according to the agreements they made with the customers and the global/national agreements. They check if the foods are kept well, like the right temperature and other conditions. They also check the machines of the packaging department, like how clean they are, so no substances will come one the foods.
After that I sat together with Jan, who was selling. He was going with Lidl, but also smaller businesses. I learned how this process worked. I also got to putting the purchase orders into the computer.
After this, the working day was over.
